During the recent Web Developers Summit held in Redmond, I met a fellow diehard U2 fan, Chris Schmitt. He happened to notic my U2 iPod which got us talking about the recently released U2onU2 book and (finally) the release of U2: Zoo TV Live from Sydneyon DVD (yay!). Don’t worry about the U2 iPod though, my Zune is on the way come November 14th!
Well, it turns out that Chris isthe author of CSS Cookbook. If you’re into CSS or wanting to learn more about CSS, I highly recommend this book. Check it out.

There was something about yesterday that was just a little off whack. The kids were bouncing off the walls more than normal and there was just a weird aura around the house. And than the heavens opened up! We had an unbelievable storm move through St. Charles (and the surrounding Chicago area) last night. The wind… the lightning… and the RAIN. Good lord, the rain. It was raining for a good few hours. Not raining really…but pouring…as in “Noah,Prepare the Ark!” It was reported that we had 4-8 inches of rain in the Chicago area last night. I’m not sure how much rain fell in St. Charles but I’d guess it was closer to the top the top of that range.
That amount of rain makes me really nervous. The reason being, we just plunked a huge amount of money into finishing our basement a little over a year ago. In doing so, I was always a little nervous due to the fact that our sump pit seems to collect a good amount of water on a regular basis.More so than normal folk. At least the one’s I’ve asked.
Last night took the cake though. I was watching our sump pit fill up in less that 20-30 seconds! I’ve never seen it pour in like that before. It was as if someone was pouring an bottom-less bucket of water into our pit. When we had our basement finished, I had a second pump installed as a backup and splurged for a battery backup system that runs on 2-marine batteries. Theoretically, we should be fine. BUT… in less than a year, one of the pumps has already gone bad and had to be replaced. So, pumps go bad. Plus, with the amount of water coming into the pit, I was nervous that there would’ve been problems with the sewers getting overloaded and than the real problems would’ve begun.
Needless to say, I didn’t sleep very well last night, worried about the sump pump. This morning, the pit isn’t filling up nearly as fast as it was, but there’s still a good steady stream of water flowing into it. To make matters worse, they’re calling for more storms tonight. Great. Let’s hope they’re wrong.
Mike Rohde provides a much better synopsis of the events that transpired last weekend at BarCamp Milwaukee than I could. Therefore, I’m linking to it here and saying, “Ditto”.
Because I was an idiot and forgot to bring my camera, I’ll have to live through the efforts of others.
