Event: November DevCares (Indianapolis)

November 26th, 2006 Comments off

Tuesday, November 28th brings our next session of DevCaresto the Indianapolis area. I'm really excited about this one as I will be one of the presenting speakers for an afternoon of disucssions around the version control features found in Team Foundation Server. Also, to celebrate the recent launch of our foray into the portable media device market, we'll be handing out a Zune to a lucky attendee!

What: DevCares (Indianapolis): Enterprise-Class Source Code Control

One of the toughest challenges of software development is incorporating an effective change management process. This month, DevCares will look at how you can use Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server to share source code and improve you’re change management process. You’ll see how the tools within TFS can help you track changes, link them to work and create test and production versions of your application.

  • Session 1: Enterprise-Class Source Code Control
  • Session 2: Advanced Source Code Control Techniques
  • When: Tuesday, November 28th, 2006 @ 1:00PM
Where: Signal Learning, 450 E 96th Street, Parkwood Three, Suite 125, Indianapolis, IN 46240

    So Long iPod, Hello Zune

    November 9th, 2006 Comments off

My iPod has just crapped out on me for the 2nd time in the past 6 months with the dreaded sad face. I was just trucking on home from the airport, with my iPod securely in it’s FM Transmitter holster, and then all of of sudden the iPodgoes silent. And it hasn’t recovered since. I’ve tried all of the reseting instructions but it’s all a no-go for this sad-faced iPod.

The iPod may have ahold on the market, but their product doesn’t hold up. It’s somewhat sweet timing that my little black-and-red iPod went kaput on me. I’ve been getting increasingly frustrated with my whole ‘i’ experence. Especially the dreaded iTunes. Ugh! Trying to discover new podcasts in iTunes is like trying to put a cat in a box, it just ain’t going to happen. Also, the integrated video playback completely blows! I have yet been able to play a video in iTunes without the video freezing up on me. It’s the simple VLC Media Player for this cowboy, thank you very much.

Thankfully, the Zune is hitting store shelves next week. Because, come next tuesday, I can guarantee the Apple iPod market share will drop by at least one iPod – mine!

Getting Set to Mix It Up Again in ’07

    November 8th, 2006 Comments off

It was just announced that the MIX’07 conference has been slated to invade the Ventian Hotel & Casino in Vegas once again on April 30th.

MIX is Microsoft?s premiere conference for web developers, designers and business professionals. MIX07 will explore the next generation web technologies that help businesses unlock new revenue opportunities and lower development costs. MIX is a forum for discussing ways to bring technologies such as ASP.NET AJAX (?Atlas?), Windows Presentation Foundation/Everywhere (WPF/E), Media Center Edition, Internet Explorer, and the Expression suite, together in a way that enables developers and designers to deliver rich web experiences that drive business results.

I’ll try to stay away from the Orange Dragons this time around! Not much to report other than the dates (April 30th – May 2nd) and the cost ($1195, $995 before March 15th). Keep an eye on http://www.visitmix.com/ for updates.
