Silverlight Tutorials Abound

June 23rd, 2007 Comments off

Expanding on my early post on Quick Start to Microsoft Expression and the training resources available to get ramped up on the Expression products, I just happened to see that the Silverlight.net team has released copious amounts of new videos of how to build Silverlight applications.

My compadre in Phoenix, Tim Heuer, is also getting into the Silverlight tutorial business. Tim just posted a video on Creating Video with Timed Overlays on Channel9.

It’s great to see all of these great training resources coming out for Silverlight. They certainly help this developer wrap his head around this revolution in building Rich Internet Applications.

Adventures in BarCamp Chicago Parking

June 23rd, 2007 1 comment

What better way to spend a gray dreary day then to drive 35 miles down North Ave, through some questionable neighborhoods, to hang out with technologists, entrepreneurs, creative folk and all around geeks. It’s BarCamp Chicago 2007 and I finally made it. As you can see below, it took me a while to find parking, but I made it. Let the conversation begin.

Learning Technology Through Fun

June 21st, 2007 Comments off

The boys at Clarity Consulting always seem to be on the bleeding edge of technology. Why is that they seem to always be on the forefront of the latest and greatest tech and tools? Well, today I found out. They have fun. No really… they code for fun…that leads to learning. And starting today, they are sharing those learning’s through the Coding4Fun blog.

Jerry Brunning talks about how they built a Dartboard scoring application in WPF to keep track of their internal (and very competitive) Cricket league. Not only did they build an app to keep the score, but they created it as a touch-screen app built into a custom kiosk. Function and Style!

The article goes into all of the detailson how they built the application. And best of all, the source code is available for you to download. Head on over to Coding4Fun and get your fun learnin’ on.

Walking Through a Movie Shoot

June 21st, 2007 1 comment

I headed to our downtown office for some meetings today. On my way from the train station to the office (~9 blocks), I noticed something was a little different today. There were white semi-trailers, lighting-rigs, and trailers all over Lake & Randolph. Then I noticed the signs… Extras this way, Lunch that way… Set over there. I’ve seen equipment related to filming in Chicago before, but this was a *major* production. After doing a little digging, I come to find out that all of the hubbub is for the next Batman movie – The Dark Knight. How cool is that?!? HollywoodChicago.com has a little more info on their shooting schedule.
